We don’t achieve balance overnight. Here we reveal what promotes inner balance and how you can get there.
In times of sensory overload, endlessly long to-do lists and constant self-optimization, we wish for balance. But what exactly does the term stand for? It means something like balance, harmony or inner equilibrium. So it’s something that’s in just the right proportion.

A relaxation exercise alone does not create inner balance. If you want inner balance, it makes sense to take a holistic approach. So both physical and mental aspects have to be considered, because body and mind are of course not separate from each other, but a team – at least they should be. That sounds like a mammoth task, but it’s worth it, because you will benefit from balance in the long term.
Inner balance and body
Balance is not only achieved through inner balance, your body also plays a major role. Therefore, you should not underestimate your diet and exercise in your life.
Your body is your temple…
… it’s not called for nothing. On the one hand, regular exercise keeps your body healthy, on the other hand it is good for stress reduction. If the saying „sport is murder“ shoots through your head, you probably haven’t found the right sport for you yet. Nobody has to suffer to stay physically fit. Find a physical activity that you enjoy. If you’re not a water lover, skip the pool and do something else. Experiment until you find something that suits you.
Conscious nutrition is not difficult at all. Drink a lot (especially water), eat a variety of foods and avoid sugar and junk food – you’ve already gained a lot with that. Emotional eating, such as eating out of boredom, occurs in many people and is not a drama in individual cases. Only when it becomes a habit could it become a problem. If you tend to do this, you should question your behavior and find out why you are doing it.
Sleep also contributes a lot to general well-being and balance. Who doesn’t know this: When you’re tired and exhausted, things don’t go as easily as usual. You can find out more about healthy sleep here.
Inner balance and spirit
If you are under constant stress, inner balance is very unlikely. Fortunately, there are many ways to relieve stress. Relaxation techniques such as breathing exercises or yoga are suitable for this.
In addition to relaxation, the mental component also includes other aspects from various areas of life, such as:
work
family
friends
Without an individual work-life balance, it becomes difficult to get a grip on stress in the long term. It is not at all about the fact that both have to be distributed equally. Rather, you set the right priorities: What is currently the focus? Do you invest a lot of time in your work and are you happy with it? Excellent! Would you rather have more time to volunteer? Then do that!
We often look at our body when it comes to well-being (and that’s not wrong!), but our social contacts also play an important role in being balanced. It is not for nothing that this point is part of many models for a successful life. Loneliness can make you sick in the long run. As social beings we need community and exchange with others.
Emotional balance
People have feelings and that’s a good thing! Or would you like to miss the emotions at your wedding, when you pass your final exam or during your dream vacation? Just like positive feelings, we also have negative feelings. Suppressing them may be successful in the short term, but not in the long term. Feelings help you understand what you need and what is important to you. Meditation can help you understand feelings.
7 more tips for more balance
In addition to regular exercise, a balanced diet, sufficient sleep, maintaining social contacts and an individual work-life balance, the following tips can help you to find your inner balance:
Besides fellowship with others, don't forget self-care! For example, plan me-time for rest and relaxation – or whatever gives you strength. Even saying no can save you from being overwhelmed and, as a result, from imbalance.
Self-reflection helps you to find out what you want instead of going through life in an externally controlled and unhappy way.
Don't compare yourself to others. Sure, your best friend's promotion or your brother's great vacation can be a boost to yourself. But constantly comparing yourself to others will frustrate you in the long run because there will always be someone more educated, funnier, or whatever.
Digital detox can also help, on the one hand: see the point above! On the other hand, the constant sensory overload is stressful and does not contribute to inner peace.
A break in nature can also contribute to inner balance (it’s best to leave your smartphone at home)! Forest bathing is said to strengthen the immune system, reduce stress and lift spirits.
Inner order through outer: Have you ever felt a lot clearer after tidying up your apartment or clearing out the basement? Getting rid of unnecessary items or having the living environment in order also seems to create an inner order. You no longer have to burden yourself with unnecessary ballast around you in the truest sense of the word.
No matter what, it's never enough? Anyone who goes through life with this attitude will probably not have balance in them. Satisfaction occurs when the ideas and expectations of life correspond to actual life. If you haven't gotten to that point yet, no problem, here are 9 tips for more happiness.
